“Home of the future” is a home automation showcase demo for the Oculus Rift which is still in development. It was initially created as a demo for our partner in Dubai.
The interactive demo is powered by Unity 5. This blog post is intended to share some of the insights and thoughts already with the great community Unity has.
We are participating in the Oculus Mobile VR Jam 2015.
It is a global contest where developers (individually, team-based or as a company) build Vr games, apps or experiences for the Samsung Gear VR.
We are competing in the ‘games’ track and are building a cooperative multiplayer game with the name ‘Land Fall’.
In addition to participating as an development entrant, we are also official appointed by Oculus as one of the Local Hardware Hubs for this contest in the Netherlands. If you have to test your own build and you do not have the hardware, please contact us so you can test your build at our location in Den bosch.
For our networking layer we use Photon Networking and they have granted us a free 500 CCU license for 3 months. Thanks Exit Games!
This will be the first in a series of blog posts about connecting electronics to interact with the real world from within Virtual Reality.
Virtual Reality is all about immersion. “Being there” is what distinguishes Virtual Reality from a flat screen conventional experience. Sometimes it might add value to an experience, to not only being able to have visual feedback of your new world.
What expectations do you have for 2015 about the Oculus Rift ?
Oculus VR has always communicated clearly that they do not want to call any release date too soon, because they want to deliver a good product. They know well that they only have one chance to put VR in its new form on the map. Oculus has stated that they would be very disappointed when they couldn’t deliver the first consumer version of the Oculus Rift in 2015.
Being Oculus Rift evangelists like us, our gear is really being put to the test when it comes down to packing, traveling and unpacking. With more versions of the development kit released and with no ability to upgrade limbs on our human bodies. We had to find a solution to keep us mobile while traveling with as much as there is needed, to show off everything that’s going on in virtual reality.
Hello world, Martijn Segers here .. a 44 year old father of the most beautiful daughter in the world.
My programming roots go back to the early 80’s where I peeked and poked my way onto a ZX-81, went for HEX-MON on the commodore 64, and trashed the color registers creating demos on the Amiga in the 90’s.
Hello there. My name is Dennis, a Virtual Reality enthusiast.
Born in 1977 in a city called Breda (The Netherlands) on planet Earth.
I’m a husband and father of two sons.
I started programming our first 8086 PC in 1988 and was hooked ever since.
My area of interest is very broad. And therefore my field of experience touched almost anything powered by a microprocessor.
